What is Developmental Parenting?

Developmental Parenting: A Guide for Early Childhood Practitioners explores the kind of parenting that values a child's development, supports a child's development, and changes along with a child's development. It is the kind of parenting that many program serving infants and young children, especially home-based programs, hope to increase through home visits or other parenting support services.Participants will explore the book to learn how parents can support their child’s development, how a practitioner can facilitate positive parent-child interactions, and why this is important. We invite you to come to the discussion with a curious and reflective mind, looking to learn and share.

Overview:

Participants are expected to read the book prior to the sessions to allow time for reflection and discussion on how the concepts translate into practice. A study guide will be provided in advance, and participants are encouraged to come prepared to actively engage in discussions.

Participants will:

Stretch their thinking and enrich their practice
Learn about this method for day to day work with families, including how to plan activities, in a way that facilitates parents in developing skills to support their child
Explore the practice of home visitation to promote child development

Requirements for Participation:

For this interactive training, each attendee needs a computer with camera, a microphone, and a stable internet connection
Participants will be expected to devote 6 hours of time to focus on reading the book with advanced supervisor approval

Cancellation Policy:

Registration costs are non-refundable.

We encourage you to send a substitute if you are unable to attend the training, as there is a NO SHOW charge for all absent registrants. Cancellations need to be made ONE WEEK prior to the scheduled training date.

Should a training not reach its minimum registration requirement, it will be cancelled approximately ONE WEEK prior to the training commencement date. Registrants will be informed by email or telephone, and registration costs will be refunded.
